ok, I need the consensus on this. You are writing an email. Or an IM. Any digital communication really. Well, text-based. Anyway, you make a parenthetical aside, and you include an emoticon. Its a common occurrence. Which of the following do you do:

a. Hey hi how's it going (good I hope :)
OR
b. Hey, ya, its going awful (just kidding! ;) )

close that opening paren or not? This always leaves me puzzled!

1. used to describe something that is really obvious. Particularly when someone is trying to give you some sort of recommendation

For ex:
"Man, I'm going to NYC next weekend. You know anything fun to do there?"
"oh ya dude, have you heard of 'Central Park'? Its rad."
"dude, that is so google page one. What else you got?"

Which, as you can see by googling "fun stuff in new york city", is verifiably true.

ben and jerry's free cone day doesn't seem to be having any impact on traffic congestion in new york or los angeles.
